please note that the Y. recurvifolia 'Tennessee' was given to me from a Yucca gardener in Tennessee who called this a 'recurvifolia'. After growing it for 8 years I would ID it as a form of Y. flaccida and not recurvifolia. I see no reason to call this a recurvifolia. Here are a few photos. This Y. recurvifolia 'Tennessee' has the BEST blooms in my garden.....they are massive and have many, many flowers on each bloom. It is a great Yucca for hybridizing to get large blooms. I hope your hybrid with this Yucca has large blooms.

I took another look at your Y. recurvifolia x filata photo. If I had to guess..........in 2009 I created a hybrid of Y. recurvifolia 'Tenn' x reverchonii-thompsoniana. Perhaps the seed labels were mixed up? The size of your plant appears to be several seasons old and your hybrid seedling looks like many of the reverchonii-thompsoniana hybrids from that year.

Do you know what year the seed is from or what year you sowed the seed? My house is full of hybrid seeds. LOL

Your Yucca 'tennesee' is marvelous , I like that tall flowerstalk , it is amazing to see so much flowers just on a unique plant...wow !

I got my seedling from Horst about 2 years ago and cultivated ist in a very small pot like about 400 more seedlings.
This could explain the small size. I don´t hope that labels were mixed up.

In PalmsNorth I found the following picture:

"Yucca flaccida 'Tennessee Mountain Form' seed grown from Rob of Tenn."


I think it´s the same plant. Was this flaccida 'Tennessee Mountain Form' a plant in the wilderness ?

yes this Tennessee flaccida form has a HUGE bloom. It also has many more flowers on each bloom when compared to other Yucca blooms. I'm not sure why.....it's a rare trait and great for hybridizing.

OK.......this is very old from 2006. Let me research and I'll show you the filata parents. I think filata #1 and filata #2 bloomed in 2006.

I think your seedling looks different from mine. Your's sure looks more rigid and narrow and is lacking the filaments mine has. Let me see all the Yuccas which were in bloom in 2006 since we DO HAVE Yucca moths and perhaps you got some seed pollenated by moths instead of by me??

NO, this is not the same Yucca. Yucca recurvifolia 'Tenn' is not the same as Y. flaccida 'Tenn Mountain Form'.

you can see the Yucca flaccida 'Tenn. MTN form' in bloom in the Y. recurv. 'Tenn' photo (to the right of the Trachycarpus nainital).

Rob from Tennessee sent me seeds of the Y. flaccida 'Tenn. MTN form' back in 2003? Rob collected the seed off a Yucca he thought was a Y. gloriosa/recurvifolia in the mountains of Tennessee.

PS, the hybrid from 2012 is Y. flaccida 'Tenn. MTN form' x baccata. For some reason this flaccida blooms much earlier than other flaccidas........I guess it has some gloriosa genes in it?......but it's seed pods are erect and the seeds are narrow like flaccida. I don't see any gloriosa traits in the MTN form except that it blooms much earlier than other flaccidas.

I can't recall which filata I used in those hybrid seeds........it appears the #2 bloom was nearly finished when the recurv. 'Tenn' was opening up. Here's a photo of filata #1 a few days later than the other photo showing it had many more flowers available for hybridizing and that it's a beauty.......most likely I used #1 pollen.
